Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Jolene Parker

Welcome to dance class at DuBose Middle School!  I am Jolene Parker and I have been teaching dance at DMS since 2007.  I am originally from Buffalo, NY and graduated in 2004 from Mercyhurst University in Erie, PA with a Bachelor of Arts in Dance and a minor in Sociology. During college, I was a founding member of the  university National Dance Honor Society Nu Delta Alpha.  I performed as a professional ballerina with Buffalo City Ballet (NY), Lake Erie Ballet (PA), Johnson City Ballet (TN), Ohio Dance Theatre (OH), and Ballet Concerto (TX) before moving to Charleston to dance with Charleston Ballet Theatre. After two seasons with Charleston Ballet Theatre, I realized my love for teaching and how much I enjoyed working with children.  In 2007, I received a South Carolina Advanced Fine Arts Certification in Dance and began teaching at DuBose Middle School.  I am a member of the National Dance Education Organization and the SC Dance Association. I have taught and continue to teach at several local dance studios and summer programs.  I also am the dance representative for the Teacher Advisory Board in Dorchester District 2.  I am proud to have watched the DMS program grow since it started in 2007 and look forward to instilling a love of dance in my students.

I am also a proud wife and mother to two beautiful girls.  Outside of school I enjoy anything dance related, craft projects, baking, theatre/arts events and trying new things.  Most of all I love to spend time with my family and our 2 dogs.  Please feel free to come to me with any questions or concerns throughout the year.
