Welcome to Spanish 1! Students are expected to make a concerted effort to speak in Spanish during class, and to participate actively in class discussions, i.e. raise hands to contribute ideas. Students are to come to class prepared every day, i.e. bring to class a pen or pencil, three-ring binder with looseleaf paper, and all homework assignments. By the end of Spanish 1, students should be at a Novice Mid proficiency level for writing, and a Novice High proficiency level for all other skills. Moreover, they should be able to write and talk about themselves and address a variety of familiar topics by using simple sentences. It is recommended that students keep a sketchbook, or make flashcards, since a great deal of vocabulary is presented in order to expand knowledge of how to communicate.
