Senior Chief Stephen Compton
Senior Chief Stephen Compton was born in Louisville, Kentucky. He joined the United States Navy in 1992 and attended Fire Controlman "A" School in Great Lakes Illinois where he graduated becoming a Fire Control Technician in 1993. For follow-on training, he completed Nato Sea Sparrow Missile System training and reported to his first sea assignment on the USS BOXER (LHD-4) stationed in San Diego, California. He completed a five year tour and three deployments to the Western Pacific. Upon transfer from his first sea assignment, he headed to his next ship in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii to serve on the USS FLETCHER (DD-992) as a Tomahawk Missile Technician for a three year sea tour where he completed two more deployments in the Western Pacific.
His first shore assignment came in 2002 where he reported to Damneck Virginia to serve as a Tomahawk Instructor. Upon completion of his instructor duty he reported to USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN-73) stationed in Norfolk, Virginia for his third sea tour where he completed an operational deployment to the Caribbean and an extended deployment in transitioning ship to Yokosuka, Japan as a home port change. After completing his four year sea tour, he reported to USS JASON DUNHAM (DDG-109) stationed in Norfolk, Virginia for a follow on three year sea tour. In 2012 he received orders to serve as a Combat Systems Trainer/Assessor at Afloat Training Group Western Pacific located in Yokosuka, Japan.
In 2015 he received orders to report to USS WASP (LHD-1) stationed in Norfolk Virginia for his fifth and final sea tour. He retired as a Fire Control Senior Chief Petty Officer from US Naval Service October 1st, 2017 after completing just short of 26 years of service. He accepted a position to serve as a Naval Science Instructor for Summerville High School NJROTC in summer of 2017 and moved to Summerville, South Carolina to teach Citizenship Development to cadets in High School.
