Degrees and Certifications:

Serena Oldfield

After high school, I started my career as an apprentice Marine Machinist at Charleston Naval Shipyard.  Several years later, I transferred to TRIDENT Refit Facilty in Kings Bay, Georgia, where I served as a certified journeyman mechanic, then was promoted to a Training Leader.  After 15 years of federal civil service, I decided to change careers to become a teacher so I could spend more time with my children.  I attended evening classes while working full time to become a certified teacher.  After spending 3 years at Camden Middle School, I moved back to Charleston to teach at Oakbrook Middle School.

While working full time, I attended evening classes at The Citadel to earn a Master's degree in Biology.  In the meantime, I moved to Summerville High School.  Since then, I have completed enough graduate hours to earn Master's +30 certification.  Since I have been at SHS, I have taught Applied Biology, Biology, Earth Science, Physical Science, and Environmental Science.
