Mrs. Nicole Peacock

I am beginning my 4th year at Summerville High this school year but I am beginning my 8th year as a teacher. I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Biology from Auburn University and a Master of Science degree in Biological Sciences from Clemson University. Throughout my education, I have traveled around the world conducting scientific research including trips to Alaska, Japan, Russia, Chile, and Antarctica.

My passion for science has led me to become a teacher because I think it is important for students to realize the opportunities science has to offer rather than just the memorization of facts. I want to share my research experiences as a world-traveler and my passion for science to inspire a future generation that appreciates and understands how science works. Science education is about self-discovery of the world around us. Thus, using a variety of methods in the classroom, such as cooperative learning, guided inquiry, and authentic assessments, and emphasizing science literacy, I hope to develop life-long skills such as effective oral and written communication, collaboration and creativity that are important not only in science careers but in any workplace. I hope to break the stereotype that scientists are old, nerdy and unsocial and, therefore, open up the possibility that science is an exciting and attainable career option.

I look forward to an excellent school year and I am excited to work with a new group of great students! Go Green Wave!
