Welcome to English II Honors. I am Mrs. Somerville, and I am looking forward to a great year with you!  This year will be my fourteenth at SHS. I moved to Summerville from McLean, Virginia, fifteen years ago with my husband and two sons, both of whom graduated from Summerville High School. I graduated Summa Cum Laude from King University with my Bachelors of Arts in English. I also earned a Masters of Education and a Graduate Certificate in Literacy Education from The Citadel.  While at SHS, I have taught English 1H, English 2H, English 4, English 5, Introduction to Journalism and Newspaper 1 through 4 and Teacher Cadets. My goal this year is to help you succeed and reach your full potential in my class in addition to preparing you ultimately for college and a career. English II Honors is a rigourous course intended to develop comprehension, synthesis, analysis and evaluation which offers a survey of world literature and integrates the study of writing, literature, public speaking, listening, grammar, vocabulary, library skills and technology. Students who successfully complete the course will be prepared to enter English 3H, AP: Language and Comprehension or Early College the following year.
