My name is Amanda McGuire, and I am originally from the cornfields of Illinois. I currently teach 7th grade ELA, with the 2022-2023 school year marking my ninth year here at Alston Middle School.

Prior to beginning my career as an educator and shortly after high school, I enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served my country for eight years, which included an extended deployment to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and the Global War on Terrorism. The military afforded me tremendous opportunities, and I was able to travel the world; learning, loving, and truly appreciating the cultures of the world. 

Throughout my military experience, I gained the desire to help improve the quality of life for all people. I found that I love being a role model for kids and have a passion to open my students minds to the possibilities of the world and provide them with the problem solving skills they will need to open doors to their own future and opportunities. I truly value the opportunity that I had throughout the years to learn from and work with such a diverse group of students.
