Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Kerri Oliver
Welcome to Chorus at Oakbrook Middle School! My name is Kerri Oliver, and I am the Director of Choral Activities here at OMS and also coach the girls' basketball team. This is my ninth year teaching and second at OMS. I am so glad to be here working with such talented students! I graduated with honors and hold my Bachelors degree in Vocal Music with K-12 Certification from Lander University in Greenwood, SC. I have experience teaching at all levels of instruction from 3-year old Pre-kindergarten all the way to seniors in high school in both public and private schools across SC and VA. I am excited to be part of the OMS teaching team and look forward to all the wonderful things this year will bring to the OMS Eagle Chorus! If you ever have any concerns or questions, please don't hesitate to contact me. Here's to a great year in Chorus!!!
***During this time of eLearning, Chorus students should be completing a regular Practice Log. Students should try to practice everyday for at least 20 minutes. This time should include practicing Warm Ups learned in class (12345, Be-Bi-Be, Mommy Made Me Mash My M&Ms. etc.), Breathing (pulse over groups of 4, 8, 12, 16, etc. and time yourself for a continuous tizzle to see how many seconds you can control your breath release), and Music (sing some of your favorite songs and those you have learned in class).***
Please make sure to look at CLASS FILES in the MUSIC folder to find some uploads of different songs we've learned this year that you can listen to and practice with. I am working to upload accompaniment tracks so you can sing your part along with the piano as well as being able to practice just your part from the music files. I will also be exploring Zoom and other programs to see if we can have some kind of video learning for Chorus during this distance time.
Please make sure you are checking PowerSchool/Unified Classroom to receive messages from me. There is a survey there I would like everyone to complete. Thanks so much! I miss hearing all your faces and hearing your beautiful voices each day! I hope we can be back together to sing again soon but in the meantime want each of you to stay safe and keep the music alive!
