Brent Montgomery is one of the foremost percussion educators, consultants, and arrangers in the country today.
Mr. Montgomery received his Bachelors of Arts in Music Education for East Carolina in 1987 and shortly after obtained his Masters, specializing in Percussion Performance, from the University of Massachusetts.
In 1991 Mr. Montgomery was hired by the world champion Star of Indiana Drum and Bugle Corps from Bloomington, IN. While at Star, Mr. Montgomery was a part of some of the most preeminent percussion ensembles in the history of DCI, serving as a percussion instructor from 1991-92 as well as capturing the high percussion award of the season in 1993 while head of the percussion battery section.
From 1994-2007, Mr. Montgomery was assistant director of instrumental music at Southport High School in Indianapolis, IN. Mr. Montgomery instructed all levels of music including marching band, wind ensemble, concert band, and marimba ensemble. Mr. Montgomery was also band director and department chairman of the Chapel Hill 7th and 8th grade center in Indianapolis, IN from 2007-08.
From 2010-12 Mr. Montgomery taught at La Joya High School in La Joya, TX as a percussion specialist. Mr. Montgomery’s responsibilities included developing the high school percussion program and teaching beginner percussion at the middle school level.
Currently, Mr. Montgomery teaches Steel Drums at Gregg Middle Schools in the Dorchester 2 School District and is an important part of the Ashley Ridge Marching Band.
