Master of Arts in Teaching

Mr. Summer

I was born in Columbia, S.C.  Growing up, I attended various schools in New Orleans, La., Philadelphia, Pa., Charlotte, N.C. and Georgetown, S.C.  My Undergraduate Degree is from Winthrop University where I majored in Speech, Drama, Communications, and minored in Economics.  My Master of Arts in Teaching is from the Graduate School at the College of Charleston.

I began teaching in 2001 at Windsor Hill Elementary, next at Dubose Middle School, then at Gregg Middle School.  My wife teaches Theatre Arts at Windsor Hill Arts Infused Elementary.  My son Dylan lives outside of Atlanta with his wife and three children.  My other son Jesse and his wife own a Chic-Fil-A restaurant in Scottsdale, Arizona.

I implement various teaching methods in my classroom, drawing from prior learning and work experiences. Prior to teaching,  I did rigging and lighting for rock bands, was partner in a construction company, directed plays in Charleston, and spent 13 years managing restaurants.  I use real-world experiences and situations in the classroom so that students will understand and use the practical applications of math in their future endeavors.
