Ms. Allison Whisnant
Allison Whisnant is a recent Summa Cum Laude graduate from the University of South Carolina with her Bachelor’s of Music in Music Education. While at USC, Ms. Whisnant studied horn under Professor JD Shaw and participated in various ensembles including the University Band, Symphonic Winds, Carolina Cor Collective, Broken Fifths Wind Quintet, and the University of South Carolina Marching Band. She served as Principal Horn in Symphonic Winds under the direction of Dr. Corman Cannon as well as mellophone section leader for the 2016 USC Marching Band and as senior assistant for the 2017 USC Marching Band. She has taught various masterclasses in the Columbia area and assisted with the Congaree New Horizons Band as a private lessons instructor and ensemble director.
Ms. Whisnant is also a graduate from the CERRA Teaching Fellows Program and successfully completed Graduation with Leadership Distinction in Professional and Civic Engagement. Her academic honors include the Dean’s List, President’s List, the President’s Award, the Outstanding Senior Award, and the Robert Van Doren Award, given to the most outstanding senior in the music education program. Her other professional affiliations include Kappa Kappa Psi, Sigma Alpha Iota, Pi Kappa Lambda, the National Association for Music Education, and the South Carolina Music Educators Association.
Allison Whisnant is a South Carolina native from Loris, South Carolina. She grew up the daughter of two band directors and began playing trumpet in sixth grade and switched to French horn shortly after. She was active in her band programs at Loris Middle and Loris High school as well as various honor bands and summer programs throughout her time in South Carolina bands. Along with teaching at DuBose Middle School, she will be assisting at Summerville High School with the marching band program and will be performing with the Charleston Wind Symphony. She is incredibly excited to begin her career as a band director and is looking forward to helping students discover the musician within themselves.
