What a great first nine weeks we have had! I have so enjoyed getting to know all of my students. We have already learned so much this quarter.

In reading we have been learning how to use context clues, identifng text structures, and using text features. We have also been working on metaphors and simlies. One of our favorite activities was our Metaphor Selfie activity. Students took selfies and created metaphors for their eyes, hair, nose, cheeks, and mouth. After students created their metaphors, they then drew a picture of themselves using their metaphors. I loved getting to see how creative my students are! Check out the pictures in our photo gallery.

In writing we have been working on narratives and text dependent analysis. Students have written about their summer vacation and the first time they learned how to do something. With our text dependent analysis, we are focusing on learning the different parts that make up a TDA. I can't wait to watch them grow into great authors this year!

In math we have been working on place value, addition, and subtraction. 3B is full of some great mathematicians! They do a great job at solving problems using different strategies and explaining their thinking. Next quarter we will be starting multiplication and division.

During our science/ social studies block we have learned about matter and the different properties of matter. Students have also learned about South Carolina regions, Native Americans, and South Carolina explorers.

So much learning has happened this quarter! I have also learned so much about my class. They are hard workers, love reading and writing, and are excited to come to school each day! We are so ready for quarter 2!
