It is with pride and joy that I continue my journey as a professional educator. I included the word "professional" because our students are educated by many sources, and I am but a small part of the whole! I have a Bachelor's and Master's in education and am honored to have been awarded National Board Certification. It is wonderful to watch young boys and girls discover their special skills and abilities. I am proud to team with families to help "our kids" stretch and grow.
I am delighted that you are in 2A! We have SO much to do together! What a great year of fun, friendship and learning!
Our behavior plan revolves around a positive behavior system. Throughout the day, each child has the opportunity to clip up or clip down based on his/her behavior choices. If a student makes it to Outstanding, he/she will get a happy note J to bring home to you. Please sign your child’s behavior calendar daily.
Reading: Reading every day is critical to enhancing skills. Your child should take a book on their reading level in the car, on vacation, and read before bed. Encourage your child to read for understanding. Ask lots of questions and expand on the story. Delve into the personalities of the characters. Discuss setting and plot. Make up a different ending for the story. What did you learn?
Homework: Your child should study spelling words and read each night. A reading log is in the back of the monthly assignments and should be completed daily. There is also a short practice activity EVERY NIGHT. Your child always has homework. I encourage you to help your child with his/her this work. Homework done incorrectly is not good practice.
