Degrees and Certifications:

Melanie Hay

Welcome! My name is Melanie Hay. I teach Sports Medicine 1 and 2 at Fort Dorchester High School.

I am originally from Summerville, SC. I graduated from Summerville High School and attended Charleston Southern University.

While at CSU, I earned a Bachelor's of Science in Athletic Training. During that time I had the privilege of working with CSU’s football, women’s soccer, and softball teams. I have also worked as a college student athletic trainer at Stratford, Cane Bay, and Summerville High schools. As a junior, I presented at the CSU Athletic Training Education Program’s Workshop for local high school sports medicine classes. I have also presented at a workshop at White Knoll High School in Columbia. These presentations showed me how much I love to share my knowledge and passion of athletic training with high school students.

I am a nationally certified athletic trainer. During the summer of 2015, I moved to Virginia, where I accepted a job as an athletic trainer for a physical therapy clinic. Shortly before school started in 2016, I moved back home to accept a sports medicine teaching position here at The Fort. During high school and college, I was a lifeguard and swim teacher for the Summerville Y for seven years and a swim coach for two years.
