Tyo Headshot
  • Ms. Tyo is originally from Summerville, South Carolina where she attended Summerville High School. After graduation, she moved to Syracuse, NY to attend Syracuse University for both undergraduate and graduate studies.

While at SU, Ms. Tyo received a BFA in Acting from the College of Visual and Performing Arts and a Masters of Arts from the Janklow Art Leadership Program. She was selected as a 2013-2014 Imagining America Engagement Scholar, which led to her involvement with SU Arts Engage and the amazing opportunity to work under the leadership of Carole Brzozowski. At Arts Engage, Ms. Tyo helped to develop residency opportunities for SU students with international artists including Kronos Quartet, Meredith Monk and Diavolo Dance Theatre. In her spare time, she also served as the Managing Director of the Syracuse Fringe Festival and the co-founder of The Building Company Theatre. As a member of Building Company, she co-wrote a political one-woman show entitled Walls of Palestine which made its National Premiere at Syracuse Fringe Festival. Following grad school, Ms. Tyo worked as the Lead Teaching Artist for Syracuse Stage. As Lead TA, she helped to lead the Enrichment Program at a Syracuse City School.  Since moving back home, she’s been involved in several local productions--Much Ado about Nothing (Leonato) and The Tempest (Trinculo) at Threshold Rep, Matilda the Musical (Ensemble/Cook) at Midtown Theatre.

In her free time, Ms. Tyo spends every Friday afternoon at Happy Hour with her fellow teacher friends, spoiling her two cats (Sugar and Otto) and admiring her thriving plant collection.
