• COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS/WBTV) - Spectrum is offering free broadband and WiFi internet access to students impacted by the coronavirus shutdown.

Charter Communications, Spectrum’s parent company, announced Friday that beginning March 16, it will make its services available for free for 60 days to households with K-12 and/or college students who don’t already have internet through the company.

Charter said it would partner with school districts to ensure local communities are aware of its tools to help students learn remotely.

It also said it would open its WiFi hotspots for public use. The company has 29 million customers in 41 states.

Mrs. Amanda Kaufman

Hello! My name is Amanda Kaufman, and I am delighted to have your child in my English I or English II CP class this year. I want to begin by telling you a little about myself and what your child can expect from this class.  I graduated from Summerville High School. I went to Charleston Southern University for two and a half years before I switched to Southern New Hampshire University. I received a BA in Psychology from Southern New Hampshire University and an M.Ed in Secondary Education from Grand Canyon University. This will be my first year of teaching.

What else should I say about myself? I love animals. I have two dogs and a cat. All my pets are rescues. I love Halloween, horror movies, ghost tours, and anything spooky. I love to read. I don’t buy a lot of books; I would rather borrow them from the library. I love English, and I can’t wait to start the year with your child.

You can expect me to come to class each day, prepared and happy to teach. You can expect me to see your child as an individual with both strengths and weaknesses and for me to maintain a classroom that is both relaxed and rigorous. You can expect me to challenge your students and myself. I expect students to be in their seats when the bell rings with positive attitudes and all their materials at hand. I expect students to treat all their classmates and me with courtesy and respect. I expect students to challenge themselves and me. I trust this will be a class your child enjoys and that we will learn and laugh each day along the way.
