Mr. Jamie Hawkins

Jamie Hawkins is thrilled to be on staff as the Vocal teacher at RMSA! Prior to Rollings, he served as choral director at public schools in Berkeley County, Nashville, TN and Anderson, SC. His choirs have performed and competed at some memorable and fun venues such Carnegie Hall, Disney World, Nassau, and once performed with the award-winning rock band Foreigner. They have also collaborated with local and professional orchestras to perform major works such as Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy, Dan Forrest’s Requiem for the Living, Vivaldi’s Gloria and Rutter’s Requiem.  Mr. Hawkins has also been involved with theater as director, music director, and actor. Some of his favorites include Les Miserables (Jean Valjean), Legally Blonde (Music Director), and 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (Chip). As a pianist, he has been actively involved as a performer, teacher, and accompanist. He is a former producer of Festival of Keys – a collaborative piano concert held annually to raise funds for a piano major at Anderson University. Music ministry has always been a passion and he currently serves as Music Director at St. Paul’s of Summerville where you can find him playing organ, piano, and directing the choir.

He holds a Bachelor of Music Education from Anderson University where he studied piano and voice. Mr. Hawkins also holds a Master of Education in Administration from Clemson University. He has also furthered his piano studies at The Juilliard School and Manhattan School of Music. A few years ago, he was a finalist for the GRAMMY Award for Music Educators.

In his free time, he loves travel, exercise, trying one new restaurant each week (because Charleston has an amazing food scene), and spending time with his two dogs – a dachshund named Hadley and bernedoodle named Lucy.
