My name is Jennifer Bates, and I am the Assistant Principal at Windsor Hill. I was born and raised in North Charleston, SC. I attended the College of Charleston to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and had the privilege of completing my student teaching experience at Windsor Hill in the spring of 1998. After I graduated from the College of Charleston in 1998, I began my career with Dorchester School District Two teaching fifth grade at Beech Hill Elementary School. I immediately began a Master’s program in Special Education with a focus in Learning Disabilities after my first year of teaching, and I graduated with my Master’s degree in Special Education from the University of Charleston in December 2001. Since I loved helping students who struggled to read, I moved down to teach fourth grade at-risk students. During my time as a fourth grade teacher, I taught READ 180 and earned my National Board Certification as a Middle Childhood Generalist in 2005. I enjoyed my time working with at-risk fourth grade students; however, an opportunity opened up in 2006 for me to work with students with special needs by becoming the special education resource support teacher. I continued to work in this role at Beech Hill until the fall of 2012 when I was given the opportunity to grow as a leader by working at the district level as the Elementary Special Education Curriculum Interventionist. In this role, I supported the elementary schools’ special education curriculum programs. During this time, I pursued a second Master’s degree in Elementary School Administration and Leadership. I graduated with this Master’s degree in the spring of 2016. I returned to Windsor Hill in 2016-2017 school year in the role of Title I Facilitator. The following school year, I was promoted to the Assistant Principal position here at Windsor Hill and this is my fourth year as the Assistant Principal.
My husband’s name is Alan, and we have three fur babies, Sully (dog), Houdini (cat), and Hogan (cat). I spend most of my free time with my family. We enjoy boating, going to the park for long walks, attending football games, and going to Classic Car Shows. I have been a lifelong learner and hope to instill my love of learning in the children at Windsor Hill!
