The Magic Flute

by Mozart Year Published:

Mozart’s The Magic Flute has become a beloved holiday tradition, and it returns to the HD Live in Schools program this year as a special offering for younger students. A story of wild adventure and fairy-tale romance, The Magic Flute follows the prince Tamino on his quest to save the princess Pamina. Tamino’s journey will bring him into contact with a host of unforgettable characters and creatures, including the jolly bird-catcher Papageno and his sweetheart, Pamina; a giant snake; a mysterious priest; and a devilish “Queen of the Night.” Over the course of his adventures, Tamino must solve strange riddles and decide whom he can trust as he wards off the forces of evil—but he must also learn that there can be no heroism without the help of true friends. Performed in an abridged English-language version, running less than two hours in length, and featuring a cast of larger-than-life puppets, The Magic Flute offers an accessible and enjoyable operatic experience to audiences of all ages.
